The oeuvre of the internationally respected artist Otobong Nkanga is a multi-faceted, including drawings, performances, sculptures and other media. In her retrospective exhibition ‘Underneath the shade we lay grounded’ in the Saint John’s Hospital Nkanga creates a dialogue between her artworks, both new and existing, and selected pieces from the museum collection, offering a landscape that invites visitors to linger and contemplate. The exhibition is being held in the historic Saint John’s Hospital, both on the ground floor and in the imposing wooden attic.
Otobong Nkanga was born in Nigeria and lives and works in Antwerp. She is regarded worldwide as one of the most promising contemporary artists of the moment.
